Cruise Ship Jobs - Part 2
In my last article, I went over some typical and not so typical jobs that you can expect to find on a cruise ship. In this next article, I’m going to go over a few more jobs that you might be interested in. Most people don’t realize just what goes into running a cruise ship. Hopefully, these articles will give you some idea of the opportunities that are open to the right individual.
Casino workers
Let’s get to one of my favorite jobs on a cruise ship…working in the casino. Ah yes, talk about fun. Well, at least for the first 10,000 deals of blackjack. Then maybe it can get a little tedious. But make no mistake about it, the casino is one of the most glamorous spots on a cruise ship. And the jobs available…are endless. I don’t recommend applying for casino manager. That’s one job with a lot of responsibility, especially when you have to escort somebody out of the casino because they’re either drunk or caught counting cards. Stick to one of the lower paying jobs like dealer, slot technician or cashier.
Computer Technicians
If you’re reading this article right now (of course you are) then that means you have a computer. Well, guess what? You got it. There are jobs for computer technicians on cruise ships. Yes, most cruise ships today have computer systems that help the ship operate. Naturally, if you’re going to apply for a job like this, you better have some kind of certification either from Novell, Microsoft, Cisco or some other technical cert. The pay is very good but it’s also a lot of responsibility. If something goes wrong with the computer system, you’re the one who is going to be responsible to get it working again.
Working in the Galley
Of course no cruise ship is complete with a galley. Ah yes, food. Next to gambling, I don’t think there is anything people love to do more than eat. There are numerous positions in the galley that you could apply for including head chef, assistant chef, first and second cook, crew cook, provision master, pastry chef, bakery supervisor, galley cleaner, dishwasher and a ton of training positions.
